STORM BLAST NEWSFLASH!
GREETINGS from the office of the Director of Recovery - Storms of 2008! As I write this newsflash, I have been on the job for 3 weeks. Every Friday I will be sending out information and updates from the "Disaster Zone." I will be sharing such items as training events, updates on rebuilding, human interest stories and much more. Over the last three weeks I have spend a lot of time talking with some of you that are working so hard to get eastern Iowa put back together, and, hopefully over the next few weeks, I will have the opportunity to talk to all of you involved in disaster response. I also had the opportunity to spend some time with Christy Smith from UMCOR. Highlights of what I have learned in the past weeks:
- Communication will be important throughout all of the Iowa Annual Conference.
- Volunteers are still needed throughout eastern Iowa...and will be needed for many months to come. Please spread the word to your congregations, youth groups, friends who live out of state, friends who live in Iowa, neighbors, relatives, anybody who will listen! - I will be meeting with chairpersons from all county Long Term Recovery Committees and learn where the Methodists can be the most help in Long Term Recovery.
- Case management training will be provided by Michael Stadie of Lutheran Services. I will keep everyone updates on those training dates. As of this email, a training date has not been scheduled. If you have questions about case management and what that means, please call me. This will be an excellent volunteer opportunity for those who cannot do physical labor.
