The Conference Steering Committee has so far committed $164,000 to disaster recovery. Distribution of these monies is as follows:
-The Cedar Rapids/Marion area churches have volunteers coming all spring and summer and we now have a commitment from the Linn Area Long Term Recovery Coalition that we will receive 30 homes from their list, to case manage and rebuild. The Conference voted to support this effort by providing $5,000 for each home.
-$9,000 to support the hiring of 5 interns to assist in the rebuild of 30 homes in the flooded Cedar Rapids neighborhoods.
-$5,000 for a discretionary fund to use to support county Long Term Recovery Committees.
I want to send out a great big thank you to the folks who commit their time to the Conference Steering Committee.
Other news - last week you should have received a notice regarding case management. This is open to everyone who is interested. There is only 30 spots available and as of today 15 have already been filled. Please let me know as soon as possible of you are interested.
We are still in need of volunteer teams - especially for the month of August. If you have teams of adult or senior high youth who are considering sending volunteers and would like myself or a representative to come and do a presentation on the need for volunteers, please contact me.
God's Peace,
Becky Wood
