Please join us for the faithspring Band Concert!

DATE: Friday, April 24, 2009

Location: The Annex, 131 S. Sheldon, Ames IA, 50014

The faithspring band was started in fall of 2001 to be the music leadership for the newly formed contemporary worship service called faithspring at Collegiate United Methodist Church-Wesley Foundation. This service is held at 5:30pm on Sunday evenings in the Annex. The faithspring band provides upbeat Top 40 Contemporary Christian music for the Sunday evening service. The band consists of electric and acoustic guitars, keyboard, drums, base guitar and vocalists. Melody Nichols served as the first director of this group from 2001-2005. Jason Janssen took over duties as director in fall of 2005. The faithspring band also takes time to visit other churches to lead music, usually in the spring of each year. They have been to United Methodist Churches in Lake City, Oskaloosa, Osceola, West Liberty, Slater, and Eagle Grove in Iowa. They have made a 2-time appearance at Hampton, IL UMC and have also been to Collegiate Presbyterian in Ames. In 2002, the group played for the Youth Annual Conference held at Simpson College in Indianola, IA. In 2009, the group played for a gathering of UM clergy during a meeting they were having in Ames. The group typically ranges from 6-10 members, several of which are Wesley Foundation students. The first years of the band was multigenerational, with a drummer in Middle School, a guitar player in High School and a retired ISU professor playing keyboard. Each year membership of the band changes a little bit, based mostly on college student interest. A freewill offering will be taken at the concert with proceeds going to a local charity. All are invited to attend this event! We hope to see you there!

Can you help an Iowa Church Looking for Information?

The West Bend UMC has a Schulmerich Electronic Bell system (vintage with cartridge tapes). The timing system no longer functions but we do have a working amp and speakers. We would like to be in contact with anyone who has upgraded from a cartridge tape to a digital with success. We can be reached at umcpastor@ncn.net or by phone at 515-887-4422.
