Media Requirements for Annual Conference Important Reminder!
Just a reminder for everyone who has a designated time on the floor of Annual Conference. If you have any form of media to be shown on the screen at Hilton, you must make arrangements with Communications in order for that to happen. We are now past the deadline for notification. Even if you create your own media presentation, it has to come to Communications to ensure the format is acceptable and to have it added to the appropriate day and time. Click here for more information and the necessary forms.
Young Adult Clergy and Seminarians Gathering
Young adult clergy and seminarians, get to know some of the other young people you are (or will be) serving with in the Iowa Conference! Join us for a time of fellowship and networking at Old Chicago in Ames following Clergy Session. We'll gather around 5:15 pm on June 4 and plan to wrap up in time for the Opening Worship at Annual Conference. If you plan to come, please let Andrea Kraushaar know (revandreak@yahoo.com or 515-423-4660) so we're sure to have room for everyone. If you haven't already, join our Facebook page-- search Young Adult Clergy (Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church).
Thank you!
We are convinced that we as Christians do not always express our gratitude for the many demonstrations of love and care that we receive during our lifetime. So we are Jubilee UMC in Waterloo would like to extend a very sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (and the Northeast District). To all churches and individuals within the state of Iowa who have ever supported Jubilee and its ministries via prayer, service work, monetary contributions, spiritual counsel and advocacy over the life and rebirth of Jubilee UMC, we acknowledge that your faithfulness and love have blessed us from our inception, and we want you to know that we are truly grateful. Many blessings to all of you, and may God continue to bless the Iowa Annual Conference.
Knives in the Drawer
If you open up your knife drawer in the kitchen how many knives will you find? A paring knife, serrated edge knife, butcher knife, bread knife, steak knives plus a few more. These are helpful and necessary items in preparation of our meals.
Dr. Gideon Avar, the Nigerian Eye Centre surgeon wants a different kind of knife—crescent and keratome. These will be used when he performs delicate eye surgeries including removal of cataracts. Angled or bevel up, these microsurgical instruments are expensive. For one knife the cost is between $3,500 to $5,000 but can be used for many years. We can also purchase knives in boxes of $6 for $51 that are disposal…but not after Dr. Avar uses them, sterilizes then and then reuses them about 5 times before discarding them. If you would like to share in the cost of these ophthalmic instruments, send your donation through your church treasurer to the conference treasurer designated, INP, #230, Eye Knives. It costs $150 for each eye surgery being planned at the Eye Camp in Pero, Nigeria in June. Let’s help the blind to see!
We’ve a Story to Tell
Do you need a speaker (short notice or in the future) at an upcoming church event or for a program? Interpreters from the Iowa-Nigeria Partnership committee are available to come to tell interesting and heart warming stories of Nigerian mission work. Hear them tell how the Iowa InGathering kits are received! The excitement of villagers who have a village well! The eagerness of women who are learning to read and write! The use of A3 to relieve malaria suffering!
From Akron to Ottumwa, from Carroll to Shell Rock and Cedar Rapids, we have speakers ready, willing and able to share their mission tales. Fourteen Iowans will travel to Nigeria in June to return in July with their first hand impressions. 2009 marks the 20th year of partnership with the United Methodist Church of Nigeria so let us come to motivate your group to celebrate mission!
