Storms of 2008 Update

Greetings from the Dir. of Recovery,
This week I took a trip to Oakville to talk to Pastor Scott Smith, and Tanya from the Oakville Development Corporation (ODC). ODC is gearing up to rebuild their community by buying and rebuilding flooded homes or building new homes on lots that they will purchase. Every time I visit Oakville, I am moved by the determination of the folks in the community, to bring their town back. You can definitely feel the spirit moving through that town!

Prayerfully consider volunteering as an individual or group in Oakville. Sign up by going online to the Iowa Conference Website and clicking on "storm recovery" or calling 877-393-1607.
Waterloo is looking for local volunteers. If you are interested in helping to rebuild rental properties please call me on my cell number.
In Cedar Rapids we continue to hammer out the details of the "Block by Block" program. I spoke too soon and it looks like we will be buying houses toward the end of July. I'll keep everyone updated. This is an exciting partnership! Please consider sending teams of volunteers for the fall! I would love it if everyone could be part of a project that just keeps growing through the Grace of God!
Notes from Pastor Melisa:
WE DID IT!!!!! On April 10th the Flood Office of the UMC predicted we would hit one million dollars worth of labor by the end of June. Today, the last day of June 103,751 hours. Translates to $1,967,849 volunteer volunteer labor recorded for FEMA or $1,037,510 volunteer labor recorded for Jumpstart or 625 families. PRAISE JESUS!
WE need TRUCKS to deliver materials and move trailers. This is a daily need. Can you help? Call 319-480-4469.
C is for cookies. We always are in need of cookies. If you have a dozen or 20 dozen, the flood volunteers will eat them. Please contact sarahm@fumcmarion.org.
That's all for now - have a great weekend!
