Storms of 2008 Update November 12, 2009

Greetings from the Dir. of Recovery,
Last week a group of us from Block by Block traveled to New Orleans. We had the opportunity to talk with agencies that are still working to recover from Hurricane Katrina. The number one thing I learned from that trip; that we are doing a lot of things right in Iowa! I also learned that non profit agencies, are the folks who stay in it for the long haul. Another thing I heard was that as the years go by, people tend to forget and the donations don't come in and the volunteers start to fade. We are one and a half years out from the disasters of 2008, and I worry that might happen here. Please don't forget, it will take approximately 10 years to recover. We still need your help and we still need donations. You will hear about the huge and generous donations coming in for Block by Block, but remember, that's only for Cedar Rapids recovery and remember the amount of work that lies ahead of us. We have other towns who still need our help; Oakville, Waterloo, Volga, etc.; and I continue to get requests for help from churches that have had storm damage. SO PLEASE, don't' forget! And as always keep the prayers going!
Have a wonderful weekend!
