Greetings from the Dir. of Recovery,
Sometimes when I sit down to write this email I struggle with what to write. Not this week! I am blessed to be a part of a extraordinary "God Moment" and I want to share it with all!
The North Carolina Conference has been loaning the Iowa Annual Conference a shower trailer since the floods. It was first in Oakville and most recently in Cedar Rapids. The first part of November they requested that it be returned. I called Dan and Jean Houston and asked if they would like to make a trip to Memphis to connect with the N. Carolina folks half way. Dan and Jean being Dan and Jean, said "we'll take it all the way to N. Carolina". While they were in N. Carolina, they ate at a restaurant where they struck up a conversation with a man named Dale. Dale asked Dan and Jean what they were doing in N. Carolina and they shared him the disasters we have experienced in Iowa. Dale happens to own a company called Klingspor. Welllll, Klingspor just happens to be a company that makes drywall sandpaper (among other things). After receiving contact information from Dan, I contacted Dale and we have drywall sandpaper coming. The trucking firm tried to deliver on Monday, but the truck driver informed Ann that we didn't have the right equipment to unload it, nor the space to put it. When I called the trucking firm the next day, I asked "what do we need to unload this sandpaper"? The reply "a forklift. We have about 500 lbs. of it for you"! We are set for a good long time with drywall sandpaper! Dale informed me this morning when we run out, let him know and he'll send more!
The generosity of people continues to amaze me! First of all, God bless Dan and Jean for delivering the trailer and eating out! And secondly, God bless Dale at Klingspor!
And speaking of generosity, we need your gift of time. Volunteers are very much needed in Cedar Rapids working with Block by Block and in Oakville rehabbing homes.
