Greetings from the Dir. of Recovery,
I have started this email three times and not had a chance to finish until today - that's how it is in disaster recovery. Every day is a new adventure!
On January 18, 2010, the Conference Disaster Recovery Steering Committee met at Grinnell UMC and the following was affirmed:
1. The Annual Conference will continue to support Block by Block rebuilding efforts in Cedar Rapids by continuing staff support until the end of 2010. Beginning July 1, 2010, the positions of Dir. of Disaster Recovery and Volunteer Coordinator will be combined. The position of full time Construction Manager will be continued and the position of part time Volunteer Office Manager will be continued. Becky Wood, the current director of Disaster Recovery will continue in the new position; Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner, current Volunteer Coordinator, will serve in a new appointment. Roy Wier will continue as Construction Manager and Carma Wiese will continue as Volunteer Office Manager.
2. $10,000 from the disaster relief fund will be sent to UMCOR for relief efforts in Haiti.
3. Church World Service will be bringing volunteers to Cedar Rapids to help with flood recovery from April 11, 2010 to May 22, 2010. Watch for further details.
