This World Malaria Day, Sleepout to End Malaria
Mark your calendars for the weekend of April 24-25. Imagine No Malaria, in partnership with Rethink Church and the United Nations Foundation, is calling churches across the country to “Sleepout to End Malaria.”
On April 24, many churches nationwide will participate in outreach that builds community locally. That night, World Malaria Day eve, we are encouraging churches to host a mosquito net sleepout to show our unified commitment in the fight against malaria. In fact, the global malaria community has come together to share this call in a show of solidarity worldwide. Instructions can be found in the Toolbox or in the online Resource Library at ImagineNoMalaria.org.
The weekend wraps up with a special event in Austin, Texas – the official launch of our Imagine No Malaria ministry. We will celebrate the many successes we experienced during the pilot project in the Southwest Texas annual conference and usher in this new, scaled-up fight against malaria to the entire denomination. The Texas State Capitol serves as the backdrop for this event, which will feature music, guest speakers and video from a United Methodist bed net distribution, taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
If you can’t make it to Austin, you can still participate in your community with a special worship service and offering that connects our call to heal the sick and take care of those in need, by hosting a special screening of the new documentary, “When The Night Comes” or by planning a 3-on-3 soccer tournament with entry fees to benefit Imagine No Malaria.
InfoServ Changes Effective April 1, 2010
