UPDATE on Propane Access Bill, SF 2235

Action Alert: Update on Propane Access Bill, SF 2235

Dear Network members:

You should have received an Action Alert a short time ago about communicating with legislators TODAY (Wednesday, March 24) to urge them to support SF 2235, the propane access bill, for low-income Iowans. Please focus your efforts now on contacting Governor Culver to put SF 2235 into the Standing Committee bill. (It is no longer necessary for you to contact House and Senate leadership.)

Governor Culver’s Office: 515.281.5211

There have been several barriers to garnering enough support to move SF2235 forward throughout this legislative session. This bill is so important because it would put an end to the practice of discriminating against low income Iowans who have the money to pay for a deliverable fuel (primarily propane) during the winter months. SF 2235 requires that deliverable fuels vendors may not refuse a customer who has cash to pay up front (enough to buy at least 250 gallons), or a LIHEAP benefit from November 1 through April 1 of each year.

Thank you for your advocacy!
