Dear friends,
The following Action Alert comes to us from Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Please take action right away! Our United Methodist Social Principles and Book of Resolutions speak to the importance of increased regulation, education and cessation of tobacco usage due to the deeply harmful and detrimental effects of tobacco on all of God’s people. The General Conference Book of Resolutions, 2008 officially states: “We give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration full authority to regulate nicotine as a drug in the United States” (“Alcohol and Other Drugs,” ¶ II, subsection 6 d). Your members of Congress need to hear from you today.

Congress is expected to vote TOMORROW on H.R. 1256 (The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act), which would give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) full authority over the manufacture and marketing of tobacco products.
Getting calls in before the vote is critical and we need your help!
Click here to call your Representative and ask for a YES vote on HR 1256.
Last year, the House passed this bill with an overwhelming, bipartisan 326 - 102 vote, but time ran out before the Senate could act. This year, we have the best opportunity yet with the bill coming up for a vote early in the Congressional session and with the president stating he will sign it into law.
With your support and the endorsement of more than 1,000 national and state organizations, we will finally be able to get this lifesaving legislation to the president’s desk.
The House of Representatives is voting TOMORROW and hearing from constituents like you before the vote can make all the difference.
Click here to call your Representative now!
We have a truly historic opportunity to protect our children from tobacco addiction and end special protection of Big Tobacco.
Tomorrow is the big day!
Thank you,
