O most holy and loving God, our hearts are broken as we mourn the deaths of so many innocent children, women, and men from a chemical attack in Syria a few days ago. No human being should ever have to endure such agonizing and senseless suffering. We lift up our prayers of comfort and hope for the families of those who have endured unspeakable grief at the hands of the president of their own country.
At the same time, we ask for wisdom for President Trump and his advisors, who are charged with determining the best way to respond so that such chemical aggression never happens again. We also pray that our nation would demonstrate compassion for Syrian refugees by receiving them into our midst and ensuring that they will never again want for safety, food, shelter, medical care, and hope.
Merciful Savior, we pray for a world where children are never harmed, families are never separated, justice will always prevail, and your shalom will unite us as one human family. And give us the grace to do our part by how we live our lives every day. We pray these things in the name of Jesus, the Christ, the prince of Peace. Amen.
