Special offerings raise over $26,000
6/13/2010
Four special offerings were received during the 2010 session of the Iowa Annual Conference. Together they tallied more than $26,576.72.
An offering of $5,958.69, gathered during the opening worship service, supported the Central Conference Pension Initiative. “The Central Conference Pension Initiative (CCPI) is a long-term solution to providing retirement financial security for dedicated clergy and surviving spouses in central conferences, those conferences outside the United States, who would otherwise have little or nothing, particularly in Estonia, Liberia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.”
The 20th year of the Iowa-Nigeria Partnership was the focus of the second special offering, which was received during the Service for the Ordering of Ministry. It totaled $7,708.96.
Pages, frequently high school aged youth, support the work of the Annual Conference session by carrying information to Conference members, delivering notes among the nearly 2,000 clergy and laity who are present, and gain an understanding of the working of the church on their way to becoming future leaders. $5,929.23 was given to help defray their expenses and, as has been true in previous years, the group of young people donated much of it back, this year to Bidwell Riverside’s work.
The fourth special offering, which totaled $6,979.84, was designated for disaster recovery efforts, primarily focused on the storms of 2008.
