Bishop issues invitation to help with flood recovery

8/20/2010
Bishop Julius C. Trimble and other Conference leaders visited the flood-affected community of Colfax, Iowa on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. The group was guided by Rev. Cindy Finn, Pastor of the Colfax First United Methodist Church.
“This is a community that’s a close-knit community,” Bishop Trimble observed. “The people have rallied around each other.”
Issuing a call to help with flood recovery the Bishop said, “I’m hoping that United Methodists in the Iowa Annual Conference will once again rise to the occasion for the communities that have been impacted by the tremendous amount of water. We’re counting on the United Methodists to continue with the generosity of giving. We’ve also made contact with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and are looking forward to continued partnerships as work teams will come to the community.”
“We’re thankful for Becky Wood and for the communication network that we do through our Annual Conference, our website and our disaster response committee work.”
“We’ve been asked, first and foremost, to be in prayer for the community and the families that have been affected by this most recent flooding. We also want to rally around these colleagues of ours as we’re engaged in hands-on mission work.”
