A  Note From Disaster Response

Hurricane Harvey

The stories from Texas are heartbreaking.  The rain continues to fall and the situation gets worse by the minute. As we watch our Sisters and Brothers in this time of disaster, many of us want to “do something to help”.

The Texas United Methodist  Disaster Response Network is already at work sheltering and meeting the needs of many people.   UMCOR is in the process of shipping Clean-Up Buckets and Health Kits,  Supplies, Tool Trailers, and Shower Trailers are waiting to be shipped. (Including ours from Iowa)
 
Because the rain is still falling, NO VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TODAY, that will change soon, and we will let you know.  PLEASE, DO NOT simply go to help, they have NO place for you to be and you cannot get there with flooded roads.
 
They have asked for:
 
PRAYERS, Please continue to pray for all affected by the Hurricane and Floods.
 
CLEAN-UP BUCKETS,  you can drop off completed clean-up buckets (and clean-up supplies that go into a Clean-Up Bucket)  with any of the Iowa District Disaster Response Coordinators,  their contact numbers are listed at the bottom of this page.  You can find the list of items that go into a CLEAN-UP BUCKET at:

HYGIENE KITS, (also known as Health Kits) you can drop off completed Hygiene Kits  (and hygiene kit supplies that go into a Hygiene Kit)  with any of the Iowa District Disaster Response Coordinators,  their contact numbers are listed at the bottom of this page.  You can find the list of items that go into a HYGIENE KIT at:

FINANCIAL DONATIONS To support the work of UMCOR and Disaster Response
 
ERT TRAINING, Start planning now to take a team to help with clean-up and re-building.  They are not ready now for teams, but in the coming months and years many, many teams will be needed.  ERT Training will be offered on Saturday, September 9, 2017  at the Conference Center in Des Moines,  cost will be $40.00 each and will cover materials, lunch and background checks.
 
ERT RECERTIFICATION will be offered on Friday September 8, 2017 at the conference center from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm,  Cost for Re-Certification will be $20.00 and include background check and badging.
