HOW YOU CAN ADVOCATE EFFECTIVELY

Please take the time to contact your legislators on bills of interest to the United Methodist Church.  We will send you a list of bills that are being currently considered.  Talk to legislators about specific bills and your stand on the issue.

  1. The most effective contact is in person at the capital if you are in Des Moines.
  2. Almost equally effective is an e-mail to your senator or representative.  You can e-mail your representative or senator by entering firstname.lastname@legis.iowa.gov  (For example the majority leader of the House is   chris.hagenow@legis.iowa.gov )
  3. Call the House and ask to speak to your Representative 515-281-3221 or your Senator at 515-281-3371.
  4. Attend the Legislative Advocacy Day on Tuesday, February 7, 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
