Water for Flint

Clean water is still an issue in Flint Michigan.  Until ALL of the lead containing water lines are replaced, residents of Flint will have to continue using filtered and bottled water.
Bishop Deborah Lieder Kiesey has asked for funds to support the work of the Michigan Conference in helping to provide filters and clean water.  YOU CAN HELP by donating the amount you would spend on a case of water ($4.00) or the price of a pitcher filter system ($20.00-$45.00)   Donations can be deposited in the large water bottle at the Treasurer’s Office during Annual Conference and will be sent to the Michigan Conference Water for Flint outreach.  To read more about the continuing water problem and the work of the Michigan Annual Conference go to: michiganumc.org

What to Wear

  • It is difficult to regulate temperature in a room as large as Halls B & C where the plenary sessions are held. Some areas of the room will be colder than others. Please be sure to bring a jacket or sweater with you if you feel you may not be warm enough. Even on a hot day!

Worship & Prayer

  • What a joy it will be to worship God together in just a few days in Des Moines, Iowa for the 2016 Meeting of the Iowa Annual Conference. Whether we are fellowshipping, responding to legislation, singing, listening to sermons or finding rest, we have an opportunity in all things to give thanks - to worship and pray together. Our hope is that you will sense God calling you to worship during the entirety of our meeting together. With this in mind, we want to let you know about a few opportunities for worship and centering: You will notice “the centering point” in the middle of our main conferencing room. For more information about the emphasis of this space, click here (http://eepurl.com/b4iFtL)  to read or watch a video about how we might be called into unity - even in our brokenness. This space is designed to be used and is a crucial component of how we will worship together.

Some of us like to prepare for worship by becoming familiar with songs which will be sung during the conference.
You can use your hymnal resource or the internet to become familiar with the following worship songs: Holy Holy Holy - 64UMH, God of Grace and God of Glory - 577UMH, Love Divine All Loves Excelling - 384UMH, We Are Called - 2172IFWS Forever Reign, Good Good Father, Our God Christ is Enough, Where He Leads Me - 338UMH

As an act of worship, you also might consider bringing some 4-foot lengths of ribbon that you can weave into the Women at the Well 10th-anniversary banner! Women at the Well is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the creation of a banner made of prison rags and ribbons. Bring your own ribbon to weave a piece of YOU and your connection into paraments to be used inside of the prison.

TrueVine Ministries is providing a prayer room/station for use during our holy conferencing. Explore room 106 on the lower level of Hy Vee Hall to find peace and calm in prayer.

All of these announcements are guides to help us remember that Jesus is in the midst of all we do. We can worship in all facets of annual conference! God be with you! Give thanks that the Lord has called us to GO and make disciples!
