Rev. Julia EF Poulsen completes her 40 years of full-time service at Annual Conference, 2021. Ordained a Deacon in 1978, she attended Simpson College and Wesley Theological Seminary. She started ministry in 1981 and was ordained Elder in 1982. She served full-time at Newton St Luke, Marengo, Cedar Rapids New Creation (new church start), Washington, and Jefferson. Poulsen was a church camp attender since she was three years old with her parents, then as a youth, then a counselor, assistant director at the Exceptional persons camp, then a director of the Creative Arts Camp at Wesley Woods for six years. For 40 years, she has recruited kids to go to church camp. She has also been active with Walk to Emmaus and attended the Beeson Institute for Leadership Development, finishing it in 2002. She is married to Dennis AP Fox and has two children Isaac and James Fox-Poulsen. Her father, the late Rev. Dr. James V. Poulsen, served in the Annual Conference for over 40 years. Her mother, Marilyn Brubaker, has been an active lay member of the UMC throughout Iowa. At one time, Marilyn ran an Iowa Conference singles ministry for those over 50, including people from all over Iowa.
Poulsen and her husband, Dennis, bought a home in Ankeny for retirement.
