Rev. Dr. David Swinton, lead Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Des Moines, offered the opening prayer for a Presidential event, held May 22, 2012, on the State Fair Grounds. He had an opportunity to Meet President Barack Obama prior to the start of the rally. Rev. Swinton's prayer invited people to consider "that we're up to something in all of our lives that's a lot more important than one election or one candidate...we are the beneficiaries of the hard work, the humility, the faith of many generations. We are all children of the One God."
