Bidwell Riverside Center's Empty Bowls event seeks to shed light on the food insecurity faced by our neighbors, and raise funds to support Bidwell Riverside Center's mission to increase stability and self-sufficiency in our community. 1 in 4 Polk County residents are food insecure, and Bidwell is working to change that.
Our Distribution Center, the largest-serving food pantry in Iowa, served over 16,000 members of the community in 2017. We distributed approximately 149,000 clothing items, 37,000 diapers, 1,500 units of baby formula or food, and 29,600 toiletry items. Access to food, toiletries, diapers, baby food, formula, clothing and household items is vital to our clients, and the need is not subsiding.
Our 2nd Annual Empty Bowls event will bring together Bidwell supporters to learn about Bidwell's accomplishments in 2017, and to celebrate 125 Years of Bidwell, with a photo station to commemorate the milestone.
Each attendee will select a locally-made ceramic bowl upon entering, a gift to take home and remind them to fill the bowls of others as often as they can.
The event will also feature a Wine Pull sponsored by WineStyles of Johnston.
