Lay Servant Training Event - October 9^th and 11^th, 2023

Courses offered:
1.         Basic:   Led by Colleen Petaros , CLM and Steven Kahler, Certified Lay Speaker
            Participant book needed:  Lay Servant Ministries – Basic Course by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson.  DR626*978-0-88177-727-3 $12.00  (also available in ePub and Kindle for $9.99). This course is the foundation for all courses in this Lay Servant Program.
 
A participant must have taken the Basic course in order to take either of the following which are also being offered.
2.         UM Polity, led by Rev Jeff Bixby
            Participant’s book needed:  Polity, Practice and the Mission of the United Methodist Church by Thomas Edward Frank.  #AB531-98-0-687-33531-2   $18.99. You will also need access to the 2016 Book of Discipline. This course gives an overview of the structure and organization of the UMC.
 
3.         Go Preach, led by Rev Kayla Lange-Carney
            Participant’s Book needed:  “From Pew to Pulpit” by Clifton F. Guthrie.  #AB6660-978-9-687-06660-5 $15.99. (Also available on Kindle, $9.99), This course is designed for those who have not completed preaching training, a refresher course and for those called to preach in a pastor’s absence.
 
All of these courses are required to become a Certified Lay Speaker. Participant is responsible for obtaining their book and reading their book prior to class. The books can be ordered through UpperRom.org/store or by calling 800-972-0433. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. As there is a 10-hour requirement for this program, there will be a 2 hour “homework” assignment assigned by the leader, which you will receive prior to the training.
