A VIM team made up of United Methodists from Livermore and Pleasanton, California traveled to Cedar Rapids to work with Block by Block on flood recovery. They were joined by two from Minnesota who did the cooking and provided other support. Thanks to Living Waters UMC in Marion for hosting the group. The quilts, made by people at Asbury UMC in Livermore, were presented to Dolores weeks and to Charlie Burns, who had 9 of his family members lose their himes in the floods, including his 91 year-old mother who will be receiving the quilt
The Ribbon Cutting celebrating the renovation/rebuilding work done with residents of the first Block by Block community in Cedar Rapids. Bishop Trimble, Clint Twedt-Ball and others involved in the program cut the ceremonial ribbon, visited homes in the neighborhood and stopped by the reopened Taylor School
Several UMC Churches, along with the Block by Block program received the Governor's Volunteer Award for 2010. All awards received by the church were given for assistance in disaster flood recovery.
