Bishops call for sentencing reform

Bishops call for sentencing reform

May 01, 2015

Bishop Julius C. Trimble was one of three local bishops who called upon Sen. Charles Grassley calling for sentencing reform that affects persons incarcerated in federal prison for non-violent drug offenses.  Joined by Lutheran Bishop Michael Burk, of the Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Roman Catholic Bishop Richard Pates of the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines, the three bishops were "among 130 of Iowa's faith leaders who last week signed a letter delivered to Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the leader of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee."

Their letter was published in the May 1, 2015 issue of the Des Moines Register.
