The Laity Session filled with prayer, song, recognition and remembrance

June 06, 2015

The Laity Session of the 2015 Annual Conference Session filled Saturday morning with prayer, song, laity recognition and remembrance before the Conference’s formal opening.

After gathering music led by Southeast Field Outreach Minister Phil Carver and Leadership Development Minister Coleen McRoberts, Conference Lay Leader Margaret Borgen called the laity to worship, and First Lady Racelder Grandberry Trimble welcomed them with prayer and words of encouragement.

Bridges 2 Harmony Roosevelt High School Gospel Choir blessed and inspired the crowd with a full set of beautiful music.

The Board of Laity offered Conference orientation tips to those in attendance.

“Enjoy every moment of it,” said one Board member.

“Look for and expect to see the Spirit of God moving through the Annual Conference,” offered another.

Late Conference Lay Leader Dave Decker was remembered, and his wife Karen Decker acknowledged.

School for Lay Ministry graduates from the three Conference school locations were recognized in advance of the Saturday evening formal awards ceremony, and Conference Lay Servant Ministries Director Jeanie Allen was honored for her work with new certified Lay Speakers.

The Laity Session wrapped up with workshops on Reaching Out to Rural Youth, Ministry with the Marginalized, A New Look at Small Groups and Music to Inspire the Heart and Teach the Faith.
