Epiphany Eve Address—Celebrating God’s Hope Made Real: A Different Way

January 06, 2022

On Epiphany Eve, January 5, 2022, Bishop Laurie Haller and the Appointive Cabinet, along with the worship team of Indianola First UMC, presented the annual Epiphany worship service.

Bishop Laurie preached “Celebrating God’s Hope Made Real: A Different Way.”  You can view and download the video of the service from here. You can read the transcript of Bishop Laurie's message here.

Based upon the Gospel Lesson for the Epiphany of Jesus Christ, Matthew 2:1-12, and Romans 12, the worship service offers both a word of hope for the New Year and expands on the guiding principles of Vision 2032 as we move forward. In the future, in a “different way.”

“Dare we go this different way all together, starting from a place of trust and respect instead of suspicion and fear? Can we go a different way where no one has to violate their convictions?” said Bishop Haller. “It will only happen if we consciously choose this new way; a way that models for the world that we can live together; a way where we can be of one heart; and a way where we can embrace differences that enhance our mission, outreach, and witness.”

Following Bishop Laurie Haller’s Epiphany Address, the District Superintendents will visit each district this winter on an “Iowa Leading the Way” Tour. The district meetings will be in several cities around Iowa, with one additional offering as a Zoom Meeting. These conversations are for all local church pastors and lay members of local churches.

A few ways you can engage the address in your local context:

  • View it with your circuit team and local church ministry teams reflecting on the message.
  • Share it as an online worship service in the event you have weather or covid related cancellations in your location.
  • Have a watch party with small groups or administrative teams to begin to dream about how we all can start to move into the future.
