Mobile United Methodist Missionaries Bless a Community

August 18, 2022

During the first week of August, the Adel United Methodist Church hosted a successful Ecumenical Community Vacation Bible School (VBS) with the Mobile United Methodist Missionaries (MUMM) assistance.

Mobile United Methodist Missionaries is a ministry of the Iowa Conference serving the Aldersgate, Golden Valley, and Riverview Park Districts of the United Methodist Church, making disciples in rural Iowa.

“MUMM provided all the tools to make the VBS a complete success: organization, flyer design, craft supplies, science experiments, and not mention the curriculum were just a few of the blessings they graced us with,” said Samantha Long, Adel UMC Worship Arts Team Leader. “This year, the Adel community VBS brought the Word of God to over 40 children.”

MUMM helps churches lead VBS, launch after-school programs in rural communities/churches, recruit volunteers from local communities to help with programming, send at-risk kids to JOY (Jesus, Others & You) Camp on scholarships, serve needs in communities year-round, and especially during the holiday season, to share God’s love with all God’s people and connect work projects with volunteer teams who are ready to help.

“It was a real joy to work with the churches in Adel," said MUMM Director Cherie Miner. "From our first meeting, the churches each offered what support they could, whether with meals, volunteers, or ideas. They continued that collaboration right through the end of VBS. The kids who came experienced love through the volunteers’ time and attention. I hope MUMM’s support encouraged that.”

Churches interested in MUMM’s help in 2023 need to contact Miner soon at cminer5068@gmail.com. They already have three sites on their calendar for next summer.

“Cherie Miner and Bonnie Davis worked with us to answer God’s call to be on a mission to churches and communities that believe Vacation Bible School is a beautiful invitation to young folks to get to know God in a fun and memorable way," said Long. "Their work during our time together was a true blessing to the community of Adel."
