We are excited to offer some Extended Learning Opportunities at Cornell College again this fall. Classes are open to all clergy, laity or anyone interested so please feel free to get the word out. We hope many can take advantage of these opportunities. If you are interested in attending any of the classes, a registration form is posted here: SLM Website. Please send your registration form along with a non-refundable deposit check in the amount of $40.00, per class, to me for processing. The remaining tuition will be paid when you arrive at your class on Saturday morning.
There are three separate classes. One or more may be taken. These classes will be held the same weekends as the SLM classes; however, they will only be held on Saturday so those who need to be back at their churches on Sunday can do so. The ONLY EXCEPTION will be the March class which will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The class dates and titles are as follows:
Rev. Franklin Livingston will be your instructor. The Goal: To develop an overall understanding of the religion Islam and its followers Muslims. Objectives: To engage the student in a thought process regarding reaching out and building up bridges with Muslims in their communities; and to develop an understanding to differentiate between Militant Islam and Peaceful Islam and its followers' orientation generally known as Muslims and Radical Muslims. Please click here for more details regarding this class.
Mr. Courtney Ball will be your Instructor. This day-long class will focus on the process of becoming a stronger writer and clarifying one's writing voice. The class will start with a discussion on what it means to write from faith and then proceed into writing exercises. Class participants should plan to spend a good portion of the day writing short pieces, sharing their work with others, and offering constructive feedback. The class will also include tips for how to maintain a writing schedule and meet your goals as a writer. (Or, if you're just beginning, how to develop reasonable goals.) Finally, participants will learn about free or low-cost resources to help them develop their writing craft.
Lay Servant (topic TBD) – Instructors will be: Colleen Petaros and Steve Kahler
