Members of the Iowa Annual Conference Center staff participated in the Healthiest State Initiative on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. For the third consecutive year have walked in the Center’s area at noon with the expressed goal of helping to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.
According to www.iowahealthieststate.com “Iowa is #9 in the nation when it comes to being physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. This is a great improvement from the #16 position we previously held, but we know we can claim the #1 spot by 2016.”
Gov. Terry Branstad has a goal of “Making Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.” He believes that it’s “not only critical to the economic viability of our state, but also critical to the quality of life for all Iowans.”
Kristina Merfeld, of the Iowa Conference staff, reported some “600,000 Iowans have participated in 2011 and 2012. We were asked to walk for 12 minutes, and we outdid that goal in time and distance!”
This year’s walkers included: Jeremy Jolly, Diane Brockmeyer, Kristina Merfeld, Felicia Coe, Barb Mann, Maggie Biggs, Bishop Julius Trimble, and Alex Stambaugh.
