Tornado update

October 10, 2013

As you may have seen in the news several strong storms including at least eight confirmed tornados hit Northwest Iowa Friday evening, October 4, 2013

Ed Frank the Northwest District DRC is working on damage assessment and will advise of what is needed as soon as he can.

At This time, this is what I know:

A tornado was sighted on I-29 that hit farm land, several buildings, several homes and a dairy near Sloan, Iowa,

It moved onto to hit Bronson, Iowa with property damage reported including several homes destroyed

10 rural  Homes Northeast of Climbing Hill and out buildings and crop land were hit

The town of Pierson has reported, 5 homes damaged by tornado

Other storm hit North of Anthon and damaged the Rock Branch church, the steeple was damaged and several nearby homes destroyed  including the home of Pastor Cheryl Ashely (Correctionville)

Quimby and Washta also report storm damage to homes and trees and power lines down.

The Town of Alta reports a direct hit by a tornado and the High School and other buildings are damaged, trees and power lines down.

We have reports of the towns of Webb and Gillette Grove having Damage

The damage is widespread but not massive in any one location.  Many reports of trees down and power lines down,

At this time I have no reports of personal injuries.

Many of these communities and surrounding communities had power outages until late into Friday evening.

Friends and neighbors have been  responding with clean up,   much of the initial cleanup is completed.

The Red Cross is housing several families in nearby Hotels

It appears at this time that local resources will be able to handle the damage. We will keep you updated, as possible.

If you have reports of other damage, please advise….Thanks

Be Well
