The School for Lay Ministry is excited to offer 3 more advanced classes at Cornell College. Classes are open to all clergy, laity or anyone – from anywhere – who may be interested so please feel free to get the word out. We hope many can take advantage of these opportunities. A registration form is posted on the SLM Website for those interested in attending any of the classes.
Classes will be held in the Thomas Commons Building, 810 Commons Circle SW. You can check Cornell’s website at www.cornellcollege.edu or www.mapquest.com for the location and direction. A campus map is also posted on the SLM website. These classes will be held the same weekends as the regularly scheduled SLM classes; however, they will only be held on Saturday so those who need to be back at their churches on Sunday can do so. The ONLY EXCEPTION will be the March class which will be held on Friday evening as well as Saturday. The class dates and titles are as follows:
Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 Death & Dying - Instructors: Pastor Rebecca Carver and Angie Hetrick (hospice worker)
Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 Prison Ministry - Pastor Arnette Pint and another instructor to be announced
Friday/Saturday, March 14-15, 2014 Prayer Advanced Lay Servanthood Instructors: Colleen Petaros and Steve Kahler
Tuition for the advanced classes in Nov., and Jan. is $75.00 per class. These Saturday only classes will run from 8:30 am to 5 pm. with registration beginning at 8 am in the Thomas Commons Building, 810 Commons Circle SW. You will be directed to your class room at that time. Lunch, which is part of your tuition, will be available.
Tuition for the March class is $100.00. Registration and dinner for the March class will begin at 5 pm on Friday and will run from 7 to 9. Saturday’s class should run from 9 to 5. As usual you are invited to eat the meals offered at Cornell on Friday night (for the March class) and Saturday lunch which is part of your tuition. If you wish to stay and eat with the other students on Saturday evening, we would ask that you pay for this meal as it is not included in your tuition. The cost is approximately $6 to $8 per person.
Since each class is a different topic, students may choose to attend whichever ones they are interested in; attendance at all classes is not required. A CEU of .7 is available for each class. Please let Barb Mann know you need a certificate once you have attended a particular class.
NOTE: If you are planning to attend any of these classes to update your Lay Speaker or Lay Servant certificates, you will need to take either the March class for a total of 10 hours OR attend two of the Saturday only classes which are 7 hours each. A total of 10 hours is needed for recertification.
