May 24-28, 2014, IAMSCU will hold its tri-annual international conference in Hiroshima, Japan. With a theme of Peace, Reconciliation and Human Rights, the conference will touch on broad themes of interest to an international audience with special attention to Hiroshima’s historic connection to peace as well as efforts for reconciliation in the Asian Pacific context.
Hiroshima Jogakuin, a Methodist school with deep roots in Hiroshima and international peace education has graciously agreed to host the conference, offering venue space at both the high school and university campuses. We will also use the International Conference Center Hiroshima within the hallowed grounds of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and have ample opportunities to explore Hiroshima’s rich legacy of peace and reconciliation.
The opening ceremony on May 25th will be held at the centrally located Hiroshima Jogakuin High School and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia and a Methodist keenly interested in education, was invited to be a keynote speaker.
The Pre-Conference Seminars on Saturday May 24th will involve educators leaders, scholars and chaplains from around the world to engage on a variety of related topics.
