Groups held a rally outside the Polk County Courthouse Friday calling for an end to deportations.
The rally was part of the national Not1more Deportation campaign.
"We are saying enough is enough. We need to stop deportations and pass a humane and comprehensive immigration reform that is sensible to our country that keeps our borders safe," said Sandra Sanchez of American Friends Service Committee.
Sanchez said that in the past year alone, 1,088 Iowa families have been affected by the deportations.
The Methodist Federation for Social Action, the League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa, American Friends Service Committee, the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa and Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement took part in the rally.
Rallies like the one in Des Moines were being held in more than 40 cities across the U.S. Friday.
