Iowa Annual Conference Session News
The 2014 Iowa Annual Conference opens Saturday, June 7, 9:30 am at the Iowa Events Center Hy-Vee Hall, in Des Moines. Clergy session will be Friday, June 6, 4 pm, at First UMC, Des Moines.
The theme is “Imagine: A Faithful Church – A Healthy World” with a celebration of our Imagine No Malaria emphasis.
Speakers and preachers include:
Bishop Julius C. Trimble, presiding bishop;
Dave Decker, conference lay leader;
Bishop Linda Lee, Bishop in Residence, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary;
Rev. Brian Milford, Dean of the Appointive Cabinet;
Rev. Kathy Martin, Chaplain, Morningside College; and
Jorge Lockward, General Board of Global Ministries, worship consultant.
Offerings will be received for:
Justice for Our Neighbors;
Imagine No Malaria;
Bishop’s Discretionary Fund;
Scholarships for our Nigerian students attending Morningside and Simpson; and
our Diakonos (youth who serve throughout the conference session).
The Pre-conference Manual is available to all members of the annual conference on the Conference website.
Preconference orientation events took place throughout the Conference in April and May.
Each district will be designating mission projects and inviting participation by in-kind giving. Watch for this announcement; which projects will you share with your congregation? Stop Hunger Now will provide conference members with an opportunity to package meals to fight poverty here and around the world.
Information on a wide variety of ministries and organizations will be available in booths and displays at Hy-Vee Hall.
