Saturday, August 16, 2014

8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

At the UM Conference Center

2301 Rittenhouse Street

Des Moines, IA

We are encouraging all multi-staff churches to attend this event.

*Staff can be unpaid volunteers who the pastor works with on a regular basis. Your church can be large, medium, or small.

Being part of a multi-staff church has its own opportunities and struggles. Sometimes Pastors find themselves more as a boss than a pastor and need to learn how to be both in the settings they serve.

Please plan to bring your whole staff to this event.

Paid and volunteer staff members are an important part of the dimensions of our church’s ministries and when we learn how to best work together, God’s ministry grows!

Invest a day on your entire staff. We guarantee you will not regret it.

Empower each member, which empowers the entire staff. Come to understand, value, and appreciate the gifts each member brings.

Learn how to recognize and capitalize on the unique behavioral styles of each staff member. Develop communications to accommodate individual differing styles.

The more staff that attend the better.

Bill Selby, the creator of the Center for Pastoral Effectiveness will be leading us that day.

Bill is the Center's Mentor. He has studied and used Family Systems theory since the 1970s. Ordained in 1974 in the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, he served a small country church and then a church in a county seat community.

He became a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference (UMC) in 1983 and was appointed to 1st UMC in Casper, WY. His last church assignment was a new church "re-start," St. Luke's UMC in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, in 1987.  It was there that he integrated most fully "Family Systems" into his ministry as he worked to grow a church that was dealing with heavy financial debt, economic downturns, and church families under tremendous stress.

Cost - The Iowa Board of Ordained Ministry and the Appointive Cabinet have covered some of the expenses and are sponsoring this event.

The cost for the churches will be $90 for one person and $10 for each additional staff member.  This includes the take-home material and lunch at the Conference Center.

You need to confirm your registration by Friday, July 18 with Linda Butler [email protected]  or 319-476-2750.

Please let her know the name of the church, how many will be attending and the names of all those attending.
