On Friday October 3, 2014, First Lady Racelder Grandberry-Trimble hosted a luncheon for the retired clergy spouses at WesleyLife’s The Village in Indianola. The luncheon was an event put on by True Vine Ministry specifically to fill a need for smaller groups of spouses to gather where they can share stories, laugh and reflect on their years of ministry.
Previously there have been gatherings such as this for the clergy spouses, but when First Lady Racelder Grandberry-Trimble and Bishop Julius Trimble were assigned to the Iowa Conference in 2008 she discovered that those events were no longer taking place.
True Vine Ministry was formed to connect clergy spouses through small and large group gatherings. It hosts two program-based annual events for clergy spouses: a Tea during the Iowa Annual Conference session in June and a Fall Gathering in October.
The Fall Gathering for Clergy Spouses will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 9:30am until 3:00pm at the Iowa Annual Conference Center in Des Moines. It will be a day of fellowship, celebration and renewal. Leadership training will include: “exploring your role as a clergy spouse, identifying the manner of speaking that applies to you most often, and discovering creative ways to explore your ministry and purpose.”
The registration fee is $20. To register: http://www.iaumc.org/pages/detail/1732
First Lady Racelder plans additional gatherings for clergy spouses similar to The Village luncheon to be a future part of True Vine Ministry. Watch for details in communications from the Iowa Annual Conference.
