Annual Conference 2022 Town Hall focused on Development

Three virtual Pre-2022 Annual Conference Town Halls meetings are being held in early 2022 to update everyone on how the Iowa Annual Conference continues to align with our Strategic Priorities. Leaders will give reports, and a time for Q&A will be available at the end.  


Priority 1:  Equipping Ourselves and Others as Transformational Leaders (Development)

The Saturday, January 8, 2022, Town Hall meeting was from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. The topic of this meeting was centered around Development.

Rev. Bill Poland, Director of New Communities of Faith and Director of Connectional Ministries, and Amanda Thompson, chairperson of the Connectional Ministries Council, reported on the reimagining of Conference Connectional Ministries Council (CCMC). Last July, they began focused work on forming two pillars within CCMC: Justice and Advocacy and Formation and Outreach.
 
Bryan Johnson, Director of Camping and Christian Formation, and Rev. Ryan Russell, chair of the Board of Camps reported on Iowa UMC's Camping and Retreat Ministries. 


Priority 2: Directing Our Resources to Our Common Goals (Alignment)

The Saturday, February 12, 2022, Town Hall meeting will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. The topic of this meeting will center around Alignment.

Maggie Biggs, Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services, and Norlan Hinke, President of the Council on Finance and Administration, will update you on the financial health of the Iowa Annual Conference. 

Joni Mardesen, Director of Human Resources and Benefits Officer, and Rev. David Peterson, Chairperson of the Board of Pensions, will report on the Iowa Conference staffing, benefits, and investments. 

David Dovenspike, President of the Board of Trustees, will report on the properties of the Iowa Annual Conference.

Priority 3: Creating World-Transforming Communities of Faith (Deployment)


The Saturday, March 19, 2022, Town Hall meeting will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. The topic of this meeting will center around Deployment.

Rev. Dr. Jaye Johnson, Director of Congregational Excellence, will report on the development of and ongoing work of Circuit Ministries. He will also report on the Congregational Excellence team's tools, events, and training.

Margaret Borgen, Chair of the Board of Laity, Angela Hansen-Abbas, and Marcia Gerot, Associate Lay Leaders, will report on the strength of the lay leadership in the Iowa Annual Conference, and Lynn Calvert, Dean of the School for Lay Ministry, will report on leadership training and educational opportunities for the laity.

Rev. Chad Jennings, President of the Board of Ordained Ministry­, will report on how the Iowa Annual Conference supports and cares for our clergy through the community and educational opportunities.
