Carlson to become NW Superintendent

January 08, 2018

Bishop Laurie Haller has announced her intention to name Rev. Ronald L. Carlson to the Appointive Cabinet, beginning July 1, 2018.

“The Iowa Annual Conference has eight districts, each led by a Superintendent who works with me to appoint the very best clergy to our congregations,” said Bishop Laurie.  “The superintendents are the chief missional strategists for the districts, developing programs of mission and ministry that extend the witness of Christ into the world.  In addition, the superintendents offer guidance and administrative supervision.”

Rev. Carlson will become the Superintendent for the Northwest District. He succeeds Rev. Tom Carver, who has served the district since 2012. Carlson, currently the pastor of Eldridge-McCausland United Methodist Churches, has also served appointments as associate pastor at Lenox Clearfield-Mercer Center-Sharpsburg and associate pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport

“I will miss my ministry in the local church, and the relationships my family and I have developed,” said Rev. Carlson.  “When I first talked with Bishop Laurie, I was humbled to have been selected for this new role in the conference, and that’s coupled with a deep respect for the responsibilities that would come with this position.  I hope to work closely with Tom so that I can hit the ground running in July.”

“My hope is that clergy and laity in the Northwest District will warmly welcome Rev. Carlson and support Ron and his family,” Bishop Laurie added.

“Some of my most admired mentors were DS during their career, I pray that I will fill the role in a way that honors their influence on me,” Rev. Carlson concluded.
