Conference Connectional Ministries Council Fall Retreat will work on redevelopment and refocus

September 16, 2021

Living into one of The Iowa Annual Conference’s strategic priorities of Directing our Resources to Our Common Goals, the Conference Connectional Ministries Council (CCMC) will gather and work on redeveloping its team and refocusing on the Iowa Conference’s mission (inspire, equip and connect) and vision (faithful leadership, fruitful communities, and fire-filled people) at their September 25, 2021 Fall Retreat.

“We are just starting to organize into two teams which will make up the two pillars for Connectional Ministries—one is justice and advocacy, and the other is formation and witnesses. The team will be developing some priorities. The members of the CCMC are having conversations with folks to discern those areas where our local churches, clergy, and communities see the greatest need for the church’s investment and will bring those to the retreat,” said Rev. Bill Poland, Director of New Faith Communities and Director of Connectional Ministries. “Once the priorities are defined, the hope is CCMC will create three to five strategic priorities for each of the pillars.”

This organization is different from how the CCMC has functioned in the past, giving out grants and doing program reviews for funding every year. The idea would be that the Connectional Ministries priority teams would meet regularly with the Connectional Ministries Council, review their ministry plans, assess their success and struggles, and receive resources to help them accomplish their goals.

“That’s the overall structure we are aiming for. Then, if what is holding the team back is resources in a priority area, we could have the flexibility to grant both people and financial resources as needed to move that priority team forward and bearing fruit,” said Poland. “This is the time for us to try new things, which means taking risks.”

The Connectional Ministries Council is hosting a virtual fall retreat on September 25, 2021. In the retreat, the new team will worship together, be introduced to the L3 process (Loving, Learning, and Leading), learn more about Ministry Action Plan development (MAP), identify strategy teams, and get to know one another.
