Episcopal Elections and Iowa: Delegation endorses Plambeck as episcopal candidate

Episcopal Elections and Iowa: Delegation endorses Plambeck as episcopal candidate

September 05, 2022

Submitted by the Iowa Conference Delegation

With the announcement of Bishop Laurie's retirement at the end of the year, your General and Jurisdictional Conference Delegates thought it might be helpful to share what that means for episcopal leadership from our perspective.

The North Central Jurisdiction (NCJ) will meet the first week in November to elect new episcopal leadership to serve our jurisdiction. We currently have ten folks who have put their names forward, including our very own Rev. Dr. Lanette Pollock Plambeck! Over this past week, our delegation has met with Lanette and has been in discernment together about her gifts for this role. We have decided to endorse her candidacy for the episcopacy. Some of the things we affirmed included: her deep desire for inclusion, the depth of her spiritual grounding, her administrative leadership, and her ability to respond with grace amid difference.

We would invite you to be in prayer for her and all of the candidates as they discern how God is calling them. A complete list of all ten is here: http://www.ncjumc.org/episcopal-candidates-biographical-information/. We also invite you to pray for the NCJ delegates that we would listen to how God is leading us.

During the elections in November, the NCJ Committee on Episcopacy will meet to make the episcopal leaders' assignments, which start on January 1, 2023. Iowa could be assigned one of the new Bishops elected, or a Bishop who serves in another place might be sent here. Rev. Barrie Tritle and Erica Shannon Stueve are our Iowa representatives of this group.

Thanks in advance for your prayerful support of this entire process as Bishop Laurie concludes her work among us, for those who are part of making decisions and hearing where God is leading, and for the Bishop who will serve Iowa.
