God's signature of salvation

God's signature of salvation

December 3rd Advent Devotion

Scripture: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. — Genesis 9:13

When my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was requested to participate in the Relay For Life after her mastectomy. She walked with the cancer survivors. I was her caregiver, so I walked with the caregivers. The following year, I was assigned to do the invocation. Prior to this event, I have been preaching about rainbows are the signature of God. As was giving the invocation, praying for God’s love and care for the cancer patients and survivors and the caregivers, I asked God to bless everyone with the support that they need. I asked God to manifest to us that He is with the patients and with all of us. As soon as I said amen, everybody was yelling at each other, “Look, look up in the sky! There is a rainbow!” My wife and I were experiencing goosebumps because in our minds it is the signature of God.

In the New Testament, I see the same sign as the signature of God. But unlike the seven colors of the rainbow, it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit with nine tastes: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5: 22-23).

When you are hit with this wholesale experience of overflowing mixed emotions it must be the signature of God. When laughter is accompanied with malice or hate then it comes from evil. But when it has love and all nine altogether you are sure that it’s from God.

Prayer: Dear God, may we see and taste your signature in the coming of your son Jesus. Amen.
