Iowa United Methodist Church’s newest bishop makes her first visit to Iowa

Iowa United Methodist Church’s newest bishop makes her first visit to Iowa

December 08, 2022

Bishop Kennetha Bigham-Tsai, her husband Kee, and her son Kamden made a quick trip to Iowa on December 6-7, 2022, before she begins residency in January 2023. During their visit, they toured the episcopal residence, visited high schools, met the appointed cabinet, and attended a farewell Christmas celebration hosted by Bishop Laurie and Rev. Gary Haller at the Iowa Conference Center.

Bishop Kennetha is already falling in love with Iowa after touring Des Moines, saying it reminds her a lot of where she grew up in Austin, Texas, with open fields and gravel roads.

Bishop Kennetha invites you to explore her website and read her first post in her blog, Letters to Iowa, titled “I Just Can’t Wait.”

“Patience is not my strong suit. That’s why I can’t wait for the moving truck to come and to be in Iowa as your new Bishop,” writes Bishop Kennetha. “I can’t wait to get to know Iowa churches and for us to begin to lead together, bringing the message of Christ to our communities. I just can’t wait!"

After the Christmas celebration, Bishop Laurie and Gary were given gifts to help them remember Iowa, Africa University, and others to help them enjoy retirement.

The farewell dinner included Christmas hymns, Christmas Crackers, the anticipation of the coming Christ, and the excitement of new chapters in both Bishop’s futures.
