Mabaan Children's Christmas Program
Like any Sunday School Christmas program, the South Sudanese Congregation children were front and center to present their program for their parents and special guest, Bishop Laurie Haller on Sunday, December 17. The kids from ages 3 y/o to 10 y/o were from the Mabaan peoples group. The usual speaking parts of welcome, explanation about the Advent candle and songs filled the fellowship hall at First United Methodist Church in downtown Des Moines. The smaller children placed the the Biblical characters and animals in the manger. Their spoken question to Mary as to what she would name her baby was answered by a resounding, JESUS! The children spelled out C H R I S T M A S with Dicka Dewo giving the narrative.
Each child received a gift bag of Christmas treats which included a pair of socks contributed by the Coon Rapids UMC and mittens and other goodies from the Sheridan Park UMC.
Sunday School teachers planning and assisting with the program were: Titus Kora, Daniel Jaden, John Degi, Dicka Lewo, Lucia Worge, Jemila Ibrahim and Beverly Nolte.
