Meal packing event makes 38,400 meals at Ankeny First's Christian Life Center

The Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) aims to pack 8,400 rice meal bags that will feed 50,400 people in Ukraine, and is on the road packing meals at various locations throughout the midwest. Ankeny First United Methodist Church's Christian Life Center (CLC) hosted an event on August 27 where volunteers assembled 6,400 meal packs, getting them closer to their goal.

The Ankeny event was open to anyone wanting to participate in a hands-on mission event. More than 175 individuals stopped by to package for at least an hour, and many stayed for a second shift. Most volunteers were from the church, but others came from as far away as Eagle Grove, Stuart, Knoxville, Manning, Plainfield, and Jefferson.

The CLC event packaged 159 cases (5+ pallets) of meals. That amounts to 6400 meal packs, translating into 38,400 servings (individual meals). All meal packs will be sent to Ukrainian refugees once the container ships from the MMDC Warehouse in Pawnee, IL, where it will take eight weeks to reach its destination.
