Remember that old Gospel song, “Bringing in the Sheaves”? That may have been the inspiration for our Mission Ingathering, born November 1, 1980, at Westmar College. Trailers filled with boxes of school kits and personal dignity kits have replaced the piles of corn, live animals, and quilts of four decades ago. We now have five sites and fill trailers at each location!
Changes? Yes. But the purpose remains the same: to show the love of Christ to the world’s people by ministering to their needs.
This year, Ingathering is November 6. It’s likely too late to assemble kits, but your financial support helps all five of the mission agencies named below. Now is a great time to send a gift – you can print off the remittance form and mail it directly to the conference office or one of the site treasurers. You can even include a gift for Ingathering itself; any money, after expenses, is given back into the five districts for hunger projects individual churches take on. Ingathering is all about helping others, wherever they are.
Our Ingathering mission partners are:
Learn about them online, and consider sending financial support. You’ll also discover that an email will get you many answers and often an offer to come to your church and share what they do.
Serving in mission is one of the things that marks us as United Methodists. We have had to change how we do many things, but the why remains the same, and that’s what matters.
