Mobile United Methodist Missionaries gear up for summer programming

April 15, 2021

Greetings! I’m Cherie Miner, director of Mobile United Methodist Missionaries – or MUMM as we’re known. Since 1997, our ministry has served in rural southern Iowa in a variety of capacities, including disaster relief, mission trips, church camp, vacation Bible school and after-school programs. We do this through the support of your District Askings, apportionments and donations. So first let me say, “Thank you.”

MUMM’s goals overall are to:
  • Coordinate rural ministry on a district-wide basis.
  • Facilitate emerging ministries, new church starts, church growth, and church revitalization.
  • Help motivate laity and clergy to outreach ministry.
  • Use the talents of laity and clergy more efficiently,
  • And, help local churches expand or vitalize their presence in their community.
In other words, MUMM is here to help you. Right now, I serve year-round to direct our programs, and during the summer, I am joined by seasonal staff – Allison Engel Bartholmey and Bonnie Davis. We help churches lead VBS, providing help and encouragement to reach out to new kids and families in their community and to find volunteers they may not know are there. MUMM also has a supply of materials available to share with those who have willing people, but need supplies.

But as our goals state, we’re also ready and willing to help in other ways. So, we’ll be sending out a survey to ask what kind of help you might need. We have some ideas, but you may have some, too. We’re asking you to respond – and to contact us if we can help! You can find us on the Conference web site and Facebook, and you can call me at 712-370-5068 or email me at [email protected].

Thank you again for your support. And remember, we’re a resource for you, your church and your circuit. Together, we can make disciples of Christ in rural Iowa.
