Prayers for conference leadership

May 05, 2020

Dear Iowa Conference Family,

We would ask that you hold several of our Iowa Conference Leadership team members in your prayers as many of them have lost loved ones during this difficult time. We pray also for you, as we are sure many of you have also experienced loss in this time of quarantine and aren’t able to be with family. We lift up our prayers to the Lord. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Rev. Dr. Kiboko Kiboko, East Central District Superintendent

One of Kiboko’s nephews passed away while studying in the Ukraine on April 3, and on April 5 the family lost another nephew to COVID-19 in France. A friend that was a doctor in London, who Kiboko described as like a brother, passed away from COVID-19 on April 24. He recently found out that his new son-in-law, who lives in Ankeny, was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Diane Brockmeyer, Executive Secretary to Bishop Laurie Haller

Diane’s father, Rev. Myron Brockmeyer passed away April 6. His call of God to ministry was received on July 4, 1948. In the middle of his junior year of college he became the student pastor of the Amish Circuit near Wellman, IA. This was the first of three student pastorates in Iowa, Missouri, and New Jersey. The family will not be having a public memorial at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Maggie Biggs, Conference Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services

Maggie’s mother, Florence Kinney, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on April 22. She was a 1940 graduate of Mt Pleasant High School. She received a teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College and taught 1st through 8th grades for two years at Maple Grove country school which was located two miles west of Salem. A celebration of life service for Florence will be held at a later date to be announced.

Rev. Ron Carlson, Northwest District Superintendent

Ron’s father, Ronald L. Carlson, passed away on April 23. Ronald retired as a school custodian from Rock Island Public Schools in Rock Island Illinois. Ronald enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Rev. Terra Amundson, Southwest District Superintendent, and Rev. Jay Amundson, pastor of Guthrie Center and Bowman Chapel United Methodist Churches

Terra’s mother-in-law, Dorothy Amundson passed away on April 25. An exceptional student, Dorothy attended the Alberta Consolidated Schools graduating in 1946 as valedictorian of her class. In 1950, she received a BA cum laude in education from Hamline University in St. Paul. After graduating, she taught high school English and was the librarian in Prescott, WI. A celebration of life is postponed until a later date.
