Prepare to welcome Afghan allies and friends

Prepare to welcome Afghan allies and friends

September 21, 2021

According to a Des Moines Register article on September 16, 2021, Iowa should expect to receive nearly 700 Afghan evacuees in the first wave of resettlements.

To help communities to prepare, Church World Service is hosting a webinar on September 30 on Welcoming Afghan Allies and Friends. UMCOR’s trusted partner in refugee and asylum care, Church World Service is one of nine resettlement agencies sanctioned by the Department of State.

Church World Service (CWS) is hosting a call for clergy and judicatory, regional, and conference leaders to hear how faith communities can partner with CWS to welcome our Afghan allies and friends.

This call will provide a programmatic update on our Afghan Assistance and Placement Program as well as an advocacy update from our CWS Advocacy Team. Attendees will also hear from our Faith Community Organizing Team and our Director of Community Sponsorship and Engagement about how congregations can get involved in welcoming Afghans to their communities. Attendees will leave this session with action items and resources to equip your congregation as you engage in welcoming Afghans to your community.

Join the virtual gathering on Zoom on Thursday, September 30th from Noon-1:30 p.m. CST
