What a joy to gather in person for the first Laity Day in over three years! (Canceled by the pandemic and postponed when Bishop Laurie suggested we wait for our new Bishop to join us).
We will welcome Bishop Kennetha Bigham-Tsai and have the opportunity to interact with her in a (relatively) small group. Bishop Kennetha will bring the message during morning worship, building on the theme of her installation,
Remembering Who We Are. She will also lead the Communion Service at the close of the day.
Our primary topic will be the Conference’s priority of becoming antiracist, thinking first about it from a personal perspective, becoming more aware of how racism surrounds us and impacts everyone, and then thinking about how real change begins.
Rev. LaTonya Calderon, Iowa Conference Director of Leadership Excellence & Inclusion, who worked closely with Bishop Lanette Plambeck while on staff to launch the emphasis in the Iowa Conference, will provide background for our thinking and work together.
The day will also include lots of practical information you, as a lay leader, will want to know!
The day begins with coffee and treats as you arrive and register to start at 9:00 a.m. The worship and program begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until 3:00 p.m.
Our hosts, Aldersgate UMC in Urbandale, will provide lunch. A special take-home surprise will become part of your witness!
There is no registration fee, but pre-registration will be appreciated to facilitate planning for food and materials. (There will be an offering.)
Register now for this day of fellowship, inspiration, and learning.
