Submission of Resolutions for Consideration by the 2021 Iowa Annual Conference Session

Submission of Resolutions for Consideration by the 2021 Iowa Annual Conference Session

May 07, 2021

2021 would usually be a “resolutions year,” meaning that an Iowa Conference clergy person, lay member of a local UMC, or a local church or churches may submit resolutions to be considered by the Iowa Annual Conference Session for inclusion in the Iowa Conference Book of Resolutions.

No submissions of proposed resolutions for inclusion into the IAC Book of Resolutions were received by the December 2020 due date, as noted in the 2019 Iowa Annual Conference Book of Resolutions [link], pages 6-9.

As it was for the virtual 2020 IAC Session, the virtual 2021 IAC Legislative Session is limited to only the essential business for the 2021-2022 appointment year and the 2022 fiscal/calendar year (paragraph 605.2 of The United Methodist Discipline).

However, it is still possible to submit a resolution for consideration by the 2021 Annual Conference Session. The resolution will be presented after all other business of the 2021 Annual Conference is completed before the scheduled 5:00 pm adjournment on Sunday, June 6.

Our Conference Rules of Order require that the Annual Conference must have prior notice of the resolution and the opportunity to review it before it is considered.

In order for these requirements to be met, we ask that submissions of resolutions be made no later than Friday, May 21. The submissions will then be reviewed by the IAC Resolutions Committee before being printed in the Addendum to the 2021 Pre-Conference Manual.
