To the saints in the Iowa Annual Conference
As you know, severe weather crossed the Midwest last night. As we are receiving storm reports, we want you to know that Wesley UMC in Muscatine suffered severe damage last night. The sanctuary roof was taken by the wind, and there is water everywhere in the building. A great sorrow is the fact that the largest and oldest organ in the United Methodist Church in Iowa is gone, submerged in water. The family life center across the street also has a hole on the roof.
We have also heard reports of damage in Seymour, Iowa, with devastation through the downtown and including the school.
We will keep you updated on other reports of damage and ways in which you and your churches can respond. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Muscatine and in other parts of the Midwest who have suffered great loss.
At this time, we are asking for your prayers, please DO NOT go to Muscatine or Seymour to help. They are just beginning the assessment process. When they are ready for help, we will let you know.
